PG - MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME

I consider Kamloops to be my home now, and with good reason. I live there eight months of the year, and go to school and work there during that time. But, although I haven't stayed in PG for a period longer than a week or so since I first moved away almost 14 months ago, being around the family, and seeing familiar faces and places brings back memories of 20 years of living I've spent here. PG will always be my first home away from home regardless of where I end up. It's where I was born and raised, where I graduated, where most of my family lives, and really the town what goes on in this town refects the kind of person I've become today. It makes me who I am.
Yet it's strange to come home to only my mom and brother. My sister was at her boyfriends place last night, and my dad is in Grande Prarie, but will be back this evening sometime. I guess the two have them got used to it over the summer though when my dad first started making trips to Grande Prarie, and my sister was in Europe. Boy, how much things have changed even within my family. My sister is putting a payment down on a condo. Yeah, that's right. She's buying a place and moving in with her boyfriend Jaret. I think it's great. He's a nice guy, and they seem to be a good match, although I've never got the chance to know him real well living in Kamloops and all. In some ways I wish I could've stayed the four months off college up here, and spent a summer with all the friends and family in PG, but then I'd be missing the opportunity to build on a career in journalism.

PG + THURSDAY NIGHT = IRONHORSE

Roberto: Remember this place Al?
me: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ya.

That was Roberto talking as we walked into the Ironhorse Pub in downtown Prince George. I got into town at about 9:30 last night, and just over an hour later, I found myself leaving home to go downtown for ladies night at the ironhorse. I knew I'd be drinking a lot this weekend, and I think I made the message clear with everyone in Kamloop with what I'd be doing. It's crazy, the Max in downtown Kamloops one night, and just the night after I find myself sipping on bottles of Canadian, saying hi to some familiar faces in downtown PG.
All in all it was a pretty good night. A nice night to relax and chill. I spend a lot of the night talking about how things are in Kamloops, while asking what's changed in PG. Well, there certainly are some changes, but some things just never change. The same bouncers at the bar, and people behind the counter, and same regulars going to the bar. I'm already starting to notice the same thing at the Max in Kamloops. It's like a drug, and people just can't get enough of it.
I love how big hockey is in this town though, I mean those who say Kamloops is the biggest hockey town need to make a trip to PG then think again. Lots of my friends were watching the 'Nucks game, talking about it, while a few have a hockey game tonight they want me to come watch. The Cougars also have a home game tonight, and I believe the Spruce Kings must too, at home or on the road. I think the fact that PG has both BCHL and WHL hockey teams speaks for itself.
Ah, well I'm running out of things to ramble on about so I suppose I should get off here, and go do something. After all, I've only got 3 days here I need to make the most of.
